Windows Image File problem

R

Russell

I downloaded the
vista_5384.4.060518-1455_winmain_beta2_x86fre_client-LB2CFRE_EN_DVD.iso image on
June 8 and burned a DVD at the slowest write setting.

Yesterday work finally calmed down and I decided it was time to try out the
Vista Beta2. I put in a new freshly reformatted drive into my system (P4 3,
3GHz, 2 GB Ram, Intel mobo) to keep the Vista Beta separate and everything
worked fine up to the point when I enter the product key. It then ended with
"Setup cannot open Windows Image File." :-(

I see that this issue has been raised elsewhere in this forum. Before trying to
burn more DVDs on other media is there a way to confirm that the iso download is
- correct and intact? (it looks fine..).

The downloaded image file is 2.45 GB (2,633,114,432 bytes).

When I go to burn the iso image with NERO I get a warning message that " The
entered block size does not correspond to the image length. The block size may
be wrong. Do you want to correct the value or ignore the problem?" (I selected
'ignore')

The resulting 3.12 GB (3,355,598,848 bytes) DVD appears to contain the install
files and the computer boots from the DVD.

I signed up for the Beta 2 and still have my 'Microsoft Windows Vista Beta 2
Order Confirmation and Product Key' email. In the event that the download is
corrupted, is there a way to still get another copy from Microsoft? I understand
the public beta is closed. But can someone who has already signed up, and has
their product key, get access to another download?

Thanks for any advice :)

Hello Russell

The download file size should be a little over 3GB. Yours appears to be a
little short.

Search around for the phrase MD5 for tools that check an ISO download.
There are several available, including one by Nero.

Unfortunately the Microsoft download site is closed. However, the next
release for the CPP is only a couple months away, so be sure to take
advantage of this.

I downloaded my ISO at the same time, got a 3.276.952 KB bytes ISO file.
After burning a DVD under Sonic got a 3.355.598.848 bytes DVD (many files
and folder). Installation starts but freezes.
I don't think you got to few data. Our burnt DVD have the same size (exactly
the same byte-size, shouldn't be a mere coincidence !)

Let's hope for the next release

salut
Ney
