Windows Image Backup

Having taken a backup Image from my laptop whilst using OS RC1 Vista. If I
do have to reinstal XP and then 'upgrade' to Vista Home Premium, would I be
able to then use the 'backup' I have taken of my laptop, whilst using RC1
Ultimate to reinstate files and settings once I have the new Vista Home
premium installed?

If not are there alternatives. My files are all backed up on a seperate
drive, as well as online.

Thanks

The image would restore RC1 and put you back to needing to reinstall XP and
then Vista Home Premium. What you need to do is use the Windows Easy
Transfer wizard to capture your files and settings, then perform whatever
reinstalls you need to do to get the system to VHP. Then restore your files
and settings and install your apps. At that point you should image the
system so that you do not have to repeat the installation of XP and Vista.

You can also purchase a copy of VHP full edition instead of the upgrade
edition. You would not be able to upgrade from RC1 to VHP (RC1 is an
Ultimate edition and you cannot downgrade) but you would not have to rely on
XP either.
