Windows HIBERNATES Spontaneously

S

Stormy

I've got 3 different computers ALL hibernate spontaneously
after being resumed from a prior hibernation.

First one is Compaq Deskpro desktop, 512MB memory running
winxp-pro..
Second is Compaq Deskpro desktop 512MB memory running
win2k pro.
Third is DELL GX270 desktop 1GB memory running win2k pro.

I put one of above to hibernate, it goes to sleep after
writing it's memory to disk.. then I power it on, it
succssfully reads memory from disk and resumes.. NOW.. if
I don't touch the keyboard or mouse the machine will go
into HIBERNATion again within about 5 minutes of
inactivity... very bad!!!

Even if I do use the computer, it sometimes goes into
hibernation, but much less likely.. I checked ALL BIOS
settings and all power saving options are DISABLED.

Also in the POwer options properties I have ALL options
set to NEVER, icon on desktop shows ON AC POWER. no UPS.
only way to prevent it from hibernating is to check
the "disable hibernation" right after it resumes.. then
when want to hibernate again you enable it and hibernate..

I've got NOTHING running on these machines, i.e. no
webserver or any spyware (that I know of), all are clean
installs, one is just 2 weeks old.

All computers are plugged to WALL outlet , no extention
cords, etc.

Does anyone here know how to debug this?? I see nothing
in the event viewer... only messages about NIC on/off when
the machines come back from hibernation...

help....... looks like MSFT just can't let me work.. very
very frustrating!

Of Course... the computers are not very new, i.e. 3-5 years old.. so no changes to BIOS for past 2 years or so, I did check, but nothing new.. funny thing is that it happens on all of them!

any more ideas?

I have the same annoyancem, but this is actually a
documented "feature" :

----------------------------------------------------
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;282208

Return from Hibernation Sets Inactivity Timer to Five
Minutes
----------------------------------------------------

If someone knows how to disable this, please let us know.
