Win XP help engine will not open any help files. Error
message says the file is not a .hlp file. Second message
says that a newer vesion of Win.hlp is needed.

Is there a fix?

Have all the latest updates

Thanks

Hi,

1. Click Start.
2. Click Run.
3. In the "Open" field type Helpctr -Regserver.
4. Click OK.
5. Click Start.
6. Click Turn off Computer.
7. Click Restart.

Thanks,

Perhaps there's something wrong with the file type associations on
your system. WinHelp (.hlp) files should be associated with
\windows\winhlp32.exe (not winhelp.exe), whereas HTML Help (.chm)
files should be associated with \windows\hh.exe.
