Windows Help Disappeared from the Start Menu

Help! My start menu doesn't show help. This means I can't either set restore
points or restore to prior points. I went to another computer, made a shortcut
to Help, copied it to the new installation, and that works, but it is a sloppy
workaround; help is on the desktop not in the start menu where God put it. I
did right click on the start button, went to the appropriate place, and
restored the rn command and search command (which weren't there either) but
Help wasn't an option to choose. What do I do?

Try this.

Right click the Start button then click Properties.
On the Start Menu tab click the Customize button.
Click the Advanced tab and put a checkmark next to Help and Support.

If it's missing as a choice, there is also a Group Policy that removes the
Help item from Start Menu.

NoSMHelp needs to be set to 0.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Value Name: NoSMHelp
Data Type:
Value Data: 0 or 1
0 (or not in the registry) = The policy is disabled or not configured. Help
appears on the Start menu.
1 = The policy is enabled. Help does not appear on the Start menu.

This entry corresponds to the Remove Help menu from Start Menu Group Policy
(User Configuration\AdministrativeTemplates\Start Menu & Taskbar).

If XP Pro, use Group Policy...
Start | Run | Type: gpedit.msc | Click OK |
Navigate to
Local Computer Policy\User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Start Menu
and Taskbar

Set Remove Help menu from Start Menu to Not Configured.

Remove Help menu from Start Menu:
[[Removes the Help command from the Start menu.

This setting only affects the Start menu. It does not remove the Help menu
from Windows Explorer and does not prevent users from running Help.]]

Hope this helps. Let us know.
