Windows Genuine Advantage

LOL! You see what you want to see. You want to see pirates all over
the place, to validate your copy-protection sycophantry.

Actually, I just sent the following email text to my ISV and Partner
contacts at Microsoft:

(sent to MS)

One thing I would like to pass along to the powers that have some hope
of making a difference is a problem we have with WGA. Keep in mind that
we don't object to WPA, WGA or even a single running of WGA
Notifications on any of the 1500 computers we manage. I have no issues
with Activation and Validation, but once per install/check is enough for
anyone.

I had not installed WGA Notifications on this computer until last night,
although we passed WGA many times as we run manual updates (windows
Update site, custom, select the ones we want to install). Last night I
installed the WGA Notifications security update, and while I understand
the need for it, it should uninstall itself once the WGA passes
inspection - to have it run every time the computer boots is a waste of
resources for customers.

I would also like to point out that WGA Notifications should not even be
an update on customers PC's that have already passed WGA, in fact, for
machines that have passed WGA and WGA Notification, it should either
automatically uninstall itself after validation or it should allow the
user to add/remove programs to uninstall it - I'm not asking that
Pirated copy users be able to uninstall it, only the ones that have
already validated and been validated.

With all the updates we have to deal with, we've have almost no issues,
and not one of the 1500 nodes has failed WGA, WPA, or WGA Notifications,
we use good vendors when purchasing our licenses.

Please ask the WGA crew to change the WGA Notifications so that it
removes itself once WGA has validated the installation, there is no
reason for it to remain on a installation once it's been validated.

While I hate to say this, we are strongly looking at Linux desktops with
Windows 2003 servers due to all of the Windows Updates/checks that we
are constantly having to deal with - this is a cost issue for clients.

I just read the two posts that you provided, and this is something you
might have missed (from the OP) "I am pretty sure that I have a legal
copy of Windows".

So, when it's all resolved, let me know if the copies of Windows XP were
legit or pirated, if they were pirated then the OP was not wasting any
time and is actually in a better position for learning about it.

Why the heck should the paying customer be put out to have to go through
all of that trouble just because others are pirating microsoft's product
and selling it?

Yes, I know, but I don't use web based forums and if it's not replicated
to Usenet I'm not going to see it.
