The diagnostic tool was updated in order to correct this problem that was
experienced by some users. Why this problem was experienced by some I do not
know. You can download/run the updated tool from here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012
After running the updated tool, try Windows Update again.
Thanks for the information below. I did do this and did install it
successfully. When I went to run Microsoft updates again, all updates were
downloaded, but the error message "Updates were unable to be successfully
installed" appeared. Do you have any information on why I was unable to
install the 12 updates? Thanks for any help.
A look at the contents of the WindowsUpdate.log file might display an error
message that would assist in helping you find a resolution to the problem.
When you next have a chance, visit the Microsoft Update (or Windows Update)
site, taking note of the date and time that you accessed the site, and
select one update to download/install. When the install fails, exit the
Update site and then locate the WindowsUpdate.log file in \Windows folder.
Copy the entries near the bottom of that file that occur for the date and
time that you last attempted an update in order to paste them into your next
post. I would recommend that you create a New Post in the
microsoft.public.windowsupdate newsgroup, ensuring that that post includes
the WindowsUpdate.log entries for the one failed update but also mention the
other 11 updates that fail to install.
