Every time I run the Windows update it downloads and installs the Windows
Genuine Advantage Tool, then when I tell it to continue and find updates it
downloads the Windows Genuine Advantage Tool again, half a dozen times so
far, after making sure Automatic updates are enabled, rebooting, etc. It
won't continue to where I can check for other updates.

This is a fairly new Win XP SP2 machine direct from Dell, it has the
original software still on it.

How can I fix this problem?

Thanks,
Mich

Instead of rebooting. Try turning off the computer. The updates
should install. Then wait while it installs. Let it turn off.
Then wait a minute. Then turn it back on.

Sorry, I could not help.

Here another method if you use dsl to try.
Set the update time an automatic what every time you want.
Turn off the screen saver. unplug the computer from the phone line
if you use it as a fax or answer machine (Not the dsl or cable
connection) Then in a couple of hours turn off computer and it should
say installing updates.

If you can't find out an easier way to do this. You might want to do
the hard method. Backup your data. Then use the dell restore cd or
build a restore cd depending on which computer type you have. Then
activate, then reinstall everything.
