BS! Claim that when you're installing Mandriva, Fedora, Apple, or any other
installation with a browser, media player, etc... You can buy - if you as a
consumer want to - a computer with any flavor of OS installed. Make Apple
open iTunes, strip the games from being installed with Linux, and disallow
any browser or media player from being installed with the operating system
and, well, ha ha... Have at it.

In fact Apple users are thinking of Installing XP on their hardware!!!
Did you hear that Apple has released a tool to facilitate this to run
in dual mode!! God knows why!!

It is called Boot Camp and God (if there is one) doesn't care why probably.
Humans know why and it is so you can use Windows only software on Mac boxes.
See, for example, a few apps that are important like AutoCAD.

thx guys

Pfft...

I'll play the bad guy. If your OS is clean and not stolen property (included
for Kurt) ACCORDING TO THE EULA you shouldn't have any problems. Follow the
rules and it is not a problem.

I snipped it all - hate me if you want but we're so far off topic, well,
who cares?

Dont care - I know what I wrote - keeps the message short.
The thread is dead anyway - I think off topic can be god practice - like
getting to know someone - if done more often then some might be less
aggressive??
I quite smoking cigarettes and then I had the chance, about a year later,
to laugh at all my friends who pay $5 USD per pack.
I finished with cigarettes in '74 - went back to charoots.
Oh I smoke, I just don't smoke much.

I fell in love with these cheap nasty cigars. I was in love with a cigar
(we'll not talk about that) for a long time. I really really liked
flavorful rum dipped cigars. We'll leave it at that and assume that I live
pretty much Canada. There is no embargo to Cuba in Canada, at least not
for cigars as far as I know.
I found similar in Spain - not flavoured - cheap I mean
Anyhow, it is something silly at the tobacco store? I think they're under
$25 USD for a "carton" and they're actually just plain Swisher Sweets but
they're menthol and I'd probably quit entirely if they weren't available.
A carton will last about 2 months and I only smoke in my office - long
story really - and it's been really good so far except I like the taste. I
have not smoked a cigarette in a long time.
$25 is what one pays for one medium sized Cuban cigar in the UK - heavy
taxes on all tobacco.
You smoke in an office? - private office or company - all smoking is now
banned in workplace - even a couple of hospitals in the UK have a total ban
smoking 'on site' - that includes the carparks, roads and seating areas
outside. I tend to only smoke outside in any case.
It's odd and funny. I don't have to worry about money and the smokers I
know who do have to worry about money all laugh at me for smoking them and
when they're out they finally change sides. I have at least four folks now
who smoke far less but smoke flavored cigars and in my area of the world
the expense to smoke cigarettes is insane for them. It has reached the
point where if I'm going to invite people over that I'll grab a couple of
cartons of cheap cigarettes and leave them out. Sad really but I like a
good cigar and still pay for some really decent ones once in a while.
I have a nice little 'humidor' - stores about 30+ decent cigars which I keep
stocked on B'days and Xmas. Got 6 Cohiba in there - now there is a good
smoke!

Unless it is a false positive. Or are you saying that WGA has a perfect
track record of only finding pirated installs?

I'm allowed. It is mine. ;) Given the distance between here and where real
people live I can even open the door, take a few steps, and tinkle on a
tree. Let me see you do THAT at a regular office.

I built an addition, well had one built, that ties into what was a daylight
basement and it is a two story affair. The bottom floor has a door to the
outside - it would be a long drop if said door were on the floor above it -
and is my "office." The basement, which is finished and now has a fairly
controlled environment small (what was a walk-in closet) is more or less a
"lab" these days but, alas, it is still the basement. The "office" keeps
having new things show up in it as of late though so I'm pretty sure that
it's someone telling me to either move off-site or that I'm being told that
I'm taking too much space. Strange stuff like a stand mixers, coats, etc...
These days I hear the sound of little feet stomping through there far more
than I hear the feet of good, quiet, nice, gentle, paying clients. Ah well.

I said I'd play the bad guy - I didn't say I'd outright lie about it. I have
enough valid licenses for Windows than I'll ever be able to use really but
no... Sometimes I still end up needing to call in for activation and I've
even had times when WGA has told me that my copy wasn't genuine. Perfect?
Not even close. For the people who get false positives it has to really be a
pain. I don't know any numbers (and I'm sure that some folks would say "one
is too many") but it's likely a small percentage of people. So, if (and yes
I say this just for you you know) ACCORDING TO THE EULA the software's not
stolen then what seems to be a vast majority of people haven't any problems
with it.

One thing I'm certain of (more so after some watching and reading) is that
people who are going to steal the software aren't being hampered by such
things for long. It may prevent casual theft or alert people who've had OSes
installed illegally by shady OEMs but the 42 year old man still living in
his parent's basement and working his PC while still wearing his underwear
isn't going to be bothered by it at all.

That would be me. One is way too many.
but it's likely
a small percentage of people.

I had a problem a couple of days ago, when I went to Microsoft Update.
Before retrieving the list of patch, I need to update WGA, but it
failed.

There are so many problems that MS has created a debugging tool. Small
percentage? 1% represents how many hundreds of thousands (millions?) of
people?
So, if (and yes I say this just for you
you know) ACCORDING TO THE EULA the software's not stolen then what
seems to be a vast majority of people haven't any problems with it.

Could care less. The ill will of those that have been affected spreads
quickly.

Take the sharing of books. Except for public libraries, sharing books
is technically illegal, but the word of mouth sales generated tends to
only help the book publisher to sell more books. The opposite is also
true. As in consumers word of mouth that a product gives nothing but
problems, spreads too. The ONLY thing left insulating MS from this word
of mouth backlash, is that the major OEMs bundle Windows with every
computer. And that will not last forever. If I were a MS stockholder,
I'd be very concerned that MS's present day anti-consumer protectionism,
isn't cutting off the nose in the years to come.

Again a couple of days ago, I call up to do phone activation, and I went
through the automated BS, and when it went to transfer me to a PA phone
rep, it hung up on me before anyone answered! And that is not the first
time it has happened to me!

I guess I'm just a copy-protection problem waiting to happen, but I'm
not alone. The group has a WGA and/or PA problem posted on nearly a
daily basis. And talk about small percentages, only a mere handful of
Windows Users even know about the USENET, let alone find there way to
this particular group.

When it comes down to it, millions have had problems with MS's
anti-consumer technologies, and they all have friends. The ill-will
generated today will bite MS in the ass in the years to come, as its
dominence over the PC OS market fades.
One thing I'm certain of (more so after some watching and reading) is
that people who are going to steal the software aren't being hampered

still wearing his underwear isn't going to be bothered by it at all.

He'll probably be running Linux anyway.

This applies to all the laws of the land! There are laws about
terrorisms that applies to people like you and me but these don't apply
to real terrorists. They will continue blowing themselves irrespective
of how many laws are enacted to stop them. i don't know whether you
have heard about British Home Secretary who has freed more than 1000
serial killers, rapists and paedophiles and now he hasn't got a clue how
to get them back in prison or to deport them because they are all
foreign nationals!!
