Windows Firewall

When I go into the Windows Firewall screen on the "General" tab, it will not
allow me to click the "On" option ... and at the top it says "For your
security, some setings are controlled by Group Policy"

How can I change to "on" from "off".

Thanks,
Brian

This is normal if you are running Windows Live One Care.
You are protected with both incoming and outgoing mail.

Jerry .... not sure what "Windows Live One Care" is ... and I don't believe I
am running it .... that being the case, is it still considered normal to have
it locked in the "off" position??

How can I switch it, given the "grey out".

Thanks,
Brian

Hi, Brian,

The post from Ramesh should be of help if you don't feel squeamish about
playing in regedit.

The one you might try is the following:

Type - regedit on the Run line, and click the following boxes:
Hkey local machine,
Software,
Policies,
Microsoft,
Windows firewall,
Highlight Standard profile,

On the right side, Right click Enablefirewall,
Click Modify and hit the 1 key,
Click OK and back out to Reboot.

Another quick one is to type - firewall.cpl on the Run line,
Click Advanced,
and click Restore Defaults.
