Windows File Selector problem

Hi, Just recently the standard file selector displayed whenever I want to
load/save anything have started to display files and folders in the order of
most recently accessed and cannot be permanently altered (i.e. I can sort
the files in any of the usual ways, but that sorting is not remembered the
next time I use the file selector.

Can anybody help me with this problem?

All help gratefuly received with thanks in advance.
 
Forgot to say that the standard windows explorer sorts the files correctly
and the file selector is set to display the directory as a list.
