Often, but not everytime, when i start my computer and it boots up i get a
message that i need to insert my win2k disk. The title of the message is
"windows file protection" The message is :
Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by
unrecognized versions. To maintain system stability Windows must install
the original versions of these files.

So insert the cd..but i would prefer to have this message disappear
permanantly.

what do i need to do?

Thnx

This can be fixed in one of two ways:

1) Copy the entire Windows 2000 CD-ROM to the harddrive and use the registry to point to the i386 folder as where you set up the operating system from. You can find those entries in the registry by searching for your CD-ROM drive letter D:\ say and where it is clear the registry is talking about where the source files are for the Windows 2000 setup you will change those entries to where you put the CD-ROM on your harddrive. The i386 folder there.

2) After you don't get the prompt at boot. Write down everything you access on the System. One of the things you are accessing is contaminating your system files. This is some software you have installed most likely. You can also check out the Event Viewer and see if there is any pertinent information there.
