Go into Control Panel/Programs/Turn Windows Features on or off. If
unchecked, check it. If checked, uncheck, then the next time you start the
computer recheck it.

Actually, that should be Control Panel/Programs and Features, then click
"Turn Windows features on or off" in the sidebar. Note that you'll need
Administrator access to enable or disable Windows features, as indicated by
the four-colored shield icon.

Maybe in classic view, not in Vista view.

You're right, John -- I had my Control Panel set to Classic View. When I
switched it back to "Control Panel Home" view, finding the "Turn Windows
features..." setting was as you described.

have you tried just typing "fax" in search on the start menu?
Worked for me.

Works for me, too. (I have Vista Ultimate.)

An interesting aside: when my brother, who runs Vista Home Premium, was
having scanner problems, he referred to a book on Windows Vista and found
instructions on how to use Windows Fax and Scan, but when he tried to find
it, he got nowhere. I had to gently explain to him that Windows Fax and
Scan isn't available in Vista Home Premium....
