Hi,

I move my XP Pro installation to a new bigger HDD, and since the system is
extremely slow. I used DriveImage to do the move from the old to the new,
everything worked fine except for the previously mentioned problem

I did a defragmentation and it did not helped

Any help or advice will be most welcome

I would do a fresh install on the new drive, as the move got botched.

Hi Martin,

There was an issue with XP and cluster sizes under certain
circumstances, which led to poor performance. If you cloned a small
Hdd to a large one, perhaps it kept the 512k cluster sizes (NTFS
only).

If the Hdd is Fat32, then this would give similar problems e.g.
breaking the built-in limit (130Gbish?). Maybe converting it to NTFS
would affect a cure?

Andy.

That is not really an option since there is too many settings and applications
to reset to make them work

If there is any other suggestion, beside re-install the whole system.

I have over 20 users to reconfigure with all applicable permissions, etc... If I
have to re-install, I'm better of throwing the whole system to the trash and
forget computer for the reminder of my life.

What size of cluster would you suggest for a 30Gb HDD, I moved the system from a
9.1Gb

You might want to talk to one of the drive image guys, could be they might
have an idea.

You might also do a repair installation on the new drive. You would most
likely not lose your data, but will have to do the applicable updates.
