everytime i am online downlaoding, or online generally (surffing), my system
becomes extremely slow and does not allow me run any other program and if at
all i get to run the program it takes it forever to load, after it finally
boots i recieve a message saying windows exploerer has encounted an error and
needs to shut down. when it finally restarts all my programs become sluggish
even the start menu and all the changes i made to my desktop returns to
default setting and also during this time my hard drive is constantly busy

Remove and reinsert your RAM stick(s)

Clear all temp, temp internet, cookies, history, recent folders, empty the trash and do a defrag.

Just out of curiosity, why remove the RAM? Are you insuring it isn't loose this
way?

Thanks

The contacts can get minute deposits on them. Removing and replacing is a good way for the contacts to find a new path for the circuit.

Clear all temporary internet files. In IE go to Tools | Internet
Options. Delete all files under Temporary Internet files.

Then Run these programs to check for spyware/malware. After installing
update them, then boot into safe mode and run them. You should update
and run them weekly.

If you’re still having problems after running these then run HijackThis
and post the log to one of the specialty forums, _NOT_ this one.

After your system is clean use these programs to help keep it clean:

Spywareblaster

Spywareguard

IE-SPYAD

For viruses, run at least two of these online scanners regularly in
addition to whatever recent and up to date AV program you have:

Online and Downloadable Virus Scanning:

Panda ActiveScan

Bit Defender Online Virus Scan:

F-Secure:

Make sure you have a firewall active at all times. If nothing else use
the one built into XP, but there are a variety of free third party ones
that do a better job from Sygate, Zone Alarm or Kerio.

Sygate Personal Firewall

Zone Alarm

Kerio Personal Firewall

Lastly check your system for vulnerabilities. Make sure you have all
the latest security patches from Windows Update too.

Websites which will check for vulnerabilities:

Browser Security Tests:

Symantec Security Check

He's an idiot. Ignore User 1. This problem has nothing to do with ram
not seated properly.

Wow.. nice to know you made a housecall to the guys computer and looked into the
case, checked the memory and found out that this was impossible.

So what kind of memory part numbers were on the sticks?

I prefer someone being an idiot to someone being rude.

If memory was the problem it would result in system freezes and reboots,
not slow operation. It has nothing to do with looking in the case.
User 1 is an idiot. He offers nothing to people, except his favorite of
uninstall SP2 or asking questions to their question. This is one of the
only posts I have seen from him where he has offered any advice and that
advice was way off base. He persists posting in HTML even after being
asked by many different people to stop. That's either because he wants
to be rude or he is an idiot and doesn't even know what people mean.
Either way I stand by what I said.

You sure are easily perturbed ! Are you always that uptight??

Any particular reason you haunt the news groups with wrong and useless
replies ?
(might be a good idea to read the user policy on charter.com re: waste of
bandwidth etc.)
