When I use IE. Also, when I turn on the computer it tries to load IE but ends part way during the process. There is nothing in the startup file to indicate that IE is to be loaded.

I have started to get the following message recently:

cannot find
http://bannercpm.com/bc/123akh.php

Any suggestions as to what this means and how to get rid of it?

it appears that maybe the
spyware was removed, but
the link may still be present
or the website no longer exists.

a freeware called spybot is
pretty good at scanning through
your system for spywares disguised
as banners and bookmarks too.

after the spybot, if the problem
is still present, use autoruns.

another freeware called autoruns
from microsoft.com really opens
up the registry. my guess is
that with it, you will likely find
a line item/key that eludes to
that erroneous target.

if/when you find something to disable,
check it then double click the filename
and the registry will open and
notate the new state of the key as
disabled...

In addition you can
reverse the changes by unchecking
the line item.

If you are ultimately successful
with resolving that issue,
then remember that your
restore points have likely recorded
that ill target. So you
will have to decide whether to
delete all your restore points
and start over and begin with
a new one after running the above.

Try this:
1... First, try to clean up your caches, Internet files and delete cookies
by doing this:
Click Start >> Control Panel >> Double click Network and Internet
Connections >> Double click Internet Options.
On the IE properties windows you will see these Taps:
General | Security | Privacy | Content | Connections | Programs |
Advanced
Under General Tab clear your History, Internet Files and Cookies.
Then click on Advanced tab and scroll down to under the Browsing Option:
[&] Browsing
[ ] Enable Third-Party browser extensions (Req Rest) uncheck this box.
Then click on Programs Tab and click Manage Add-Ons and Disable all non
Verified Add-Ons (You should Renable them later one-by-one and see the
culprit and update it or remove it.
And also for malwares from here:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad-aware_se_personal.php
http://www.safer-networking.org ; for Spybot S&D

then Open the Windows
Explorer and locate this path:
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc = look in the Right Pane/window for this
file called the HOSTS file but not the one with the extension *.SAM* leave
this as is.
If you can't see it try to click Tools >> Folder Options and select show
Hidden files and folder, then right Click the Hosts file and select open with
Notepad.
There see any reference for that site and remove it, you Hosts file will
looks like this:
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # Source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # Client Host
127.0.0.1 LocalHost
------------------------------------------
Remove all other References other than those above.

While in the registry look for Toolbar and see what toolbar is installed!.
2= Open a run command and type in:
regedit.exe and click [OK] on the Registry Editor locate the following:
Change the Home page in the following KEYS:
Click on *Main*
[+]HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main.
