Windows Explorer Won't Expand Drives after 4/11/06 XP Critical Upd

After the 4/11/06 XP Critical Updates installed, on restart, Explorer (not
MSIE) no longer shows the drives w/ a "+" nor allows me to expand and view
folder/files. Forced to use MyComputer then only by clicking a main folder
and subs can I navigate. Trying to close Explorer, it locks up; sending a
report, it says MSN Messenger is running slow or turned off (it isn't); goes
on to say check spy, virus, etc - system is ultra clean (XP Pro).

Anybody hit this quirk? If so, any insight is greatly appreciated!

I would suggest the following:

1. Uninstall the KB908531 update and reboot your PC.
2. Perform a Disk Cleanup.
3. Perform a Checkdisk (error-checking).
4. Download and install the update manually, then reboot.

Carey, thanks for this helpful insight. Uninstallalling KB908531 by itself
returned operation to normal. Ran Disk CleanUp and Checkdisk; manually
installed the update. On reboot, the problem was back. Uninstall this
update moduale, restart and all works again. For now, I'll run without it.
I'm wondering if drive size & type play into this? This machine has four(4)
500GB SATA HDs. It is great to have Explorer back as you may imagine w/ 2TB
to manage!
