The folder view in Windows Explorer keeps scrolling completely randomly back
and forth and right and left all the time (you don't even get a scroll bar
for the right and left scrolling)

Is there anyway to turn off this "feature" ?

Not sure if this is what you're esxdperiencing but I had a similar problem
with a new laptop. I didn't realize the touchpad software had a "feature"
called draglock. You have to left click in the pane to release focus of the
scroll bar. Disabling this feature allows for normal scroll bar operation.

Oh, that's actually a really nice suggestion.

To be honest it's not random or a bug I'm thinking of
it's actually a feature to maximize the part of the tree
that you expaned and to let you see as much as possible
of the folder name. While I can understand where a
deveoper get the idea that this is good interface design
the end result is only that every time I click in the
folder tree -it moves-, and quite frankly it's starting to
drive me absolutly insane.

What I'm asking for is if there is a way to make windows
explorer STOP helping me. I don't want the constant
repositioning of the tree.

Any suggestion for a replacement for windows explorer
would be equally interesting.

You can expand the width of the left-hand pane where the tree is displayed.
This should make explorer stop jiggling the display. Still, it would have
been better to include a horizontal scroll bar and leave the display static
unless the user (you) tries to adjust it - like XP and previous Windows
versions.

On the topic of an alternative for windows explorer, I'll have to look.
I'll bet there's something out there that's better.
