Windows Explorer text search not finding files

When using the Windows Explorer search option to search for a text string
within a file, the syste is not finding all files. It seems to only look at
..txt or .doc files. we have .nc &.ncp files which can be viewed as text in
notepad but the search will not find text strings within them. This type of
search work with Windows 2000, but not with WinXP sp2. How can I fix this
problem?

Follow this advice and create a PersistentHandler for that filetype. Use
{5e941d80-bf96-11cd-b579-08002b30bfeb}, if and only if it is a plain-text
file. For other HTML based files, the search filter will vary.

Additional Note from Torgeir Bakken:

WinXP's search function filters out files to search in based on file
extensions (see further below).

Install the free Agent Ransack, it searches for text strings in *all*
types of files, and not just in a selection of "approved" file extensions
as the built-in search does. It's a *much* better search tool as well...

Agent Ransack can save the search result to a file (or clipboard), as text,
comma separated text or tab separated text. E.g. Excel reads comma separated
text (csv) very well.
