The Windows Explorer Search utility is not working to find
strings in certain files even though I look in *.*. As
example, I created a .txt file with the word 'Match'. I
run Search and the string is found. I change the file
extension to .sql, run the same Search and it doesn't find
the string.

I am running Windows XP Professional, Version 2002 Service
Pack 1.

Miller, XP's search function only searches for text in files with
specific extensions that have been identified as text only files. There
is a way to edit the registry to add a certain file type, however
unfortunately I don't have the solution handy. You should be able to
find it by searching this newsgroup using Google groups. Another option
is to use a 3rd party search tool. One that is popular and free is
Agent Ransack.
