Windows Explorer is not the best in my opinion. Can anyone here
recommend a replacement that they have used on XP? Preferably an app
with a gui, command line window and search capabilities.

Thanks,
John

Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer are two different things. The OP was
asking about Windows Explorer.

Trying out 'ExploreXP'. Free and much faster than Windows Explorer.

Thanks Nick, I tried the free trial version yesterday and evidently it
only lets you start it three times. So that one is a no-go as I
obviously can't use it long enough to make any type of decision. Maybe
it works great but eye candy obviously wasn't a priority.

I'd have to agree! Take a look at xplorer2 at www.zabcat.com so many features I haven't even found them all!

Yea I have that one installed right now and it looks promising. If you
want flat out speed but no frills exporerXP is looking good as well. I
guess it depends on what you want to do at a particular time. Right now
it looks as though the two as a combo is promising. I'll try them both
for a while and see how it goes. One thing I noticed about xplorer2 is
that changing from detail to thumbnail view is a bit of a pain and
doesn't seem to support individual folder view like its big brother but
I'll keep plugging along and see how it goes. This isn't a problem with
explorerXP because it doesn't support thumbs . . LOL

Thanks for your input,
John

John, as far as I know, there is no start limit. What you're
seeing is a "nag" screen asing you to press button 1, 2, or 3.

The 30 day trial is fully functional and will continue working
after the 30 day trial period. I've installed it on every customer
computer I've worked on with no problems.

There are some good (free) plugins available on the website that
enhance to program further.

Being an old Norton Commander user, I don't miss the Windows style
"eye candy" and appreciate the speed and function of Total
Commander

Nope, now pressing any of the 3 buttons does nothing, the app just
exits. The first try I pressed button #1 and it ran, the second time #2
etc. now none of the buttons work. Actually I should say 'did' as I
un-installed it.

John sounds like a man that drives a $40,000 car and looks only for a free parking place with shade.

The nag screen "tells you" which button to press to start the
program. If you press a button "other" than the one indicated, the
program will close.

Good to hear you found some good possibles. I tried them and found
them a bit clunky to use compared to Commander. Nice eye candy
though.
