Windows Explorer (rant)

Hi

I have Ultimate 32, I just read an article in a PC Magazine decrying Windows
Explorer, saying
how useless it was and how another program was much better.

Now I'm not sure what the author wanted explorer to do but unless he wanted
it to get up and
cook his breakfast as far as I can tell Windows Explorer does what it is
supposed to do,
IE. List the contents of your hard drives, folders and sub folders.

Some of the attributes for the other program are said to be. Rename multiple
files,
I do that daily with Windows Explorer, Run multiple instances, DUH, often do
this, Add folders
to favs, DITTO and so on.

Most of the contributors to the PC mags I have seen are so intent on putting
MS down that
they do not give Windows a fair go, Thank you MS for Windows, it brought me
into the computing age
painlessly, after I gave up with Macs.

cheers and thanks for listening

Macs are for self-proclaimed "arty types" who can't get their head around
anything remotely technical. Real men use Windows.

Incidentally, I really wish Explorer had a "two pane" option, such that I
could have a source pane and a destination pane. It would make file copying
and moving much easier, without having to open a new Explorer window twice.

That's why I use Directory Opus.

I get around that by opening two Explorer windows and keeping them at half
size each, I can drag and drop and copy/paste across
both.

just as an aside I saw another suspect individual complaining about Windows
copy/paste terminology,
struth.... get a life.

cheers

Copy some large folders to another machine or the same machine and watch
it crash. Do the same in Ubuntu and watch it fly to completion with no
problems. Debian seems even quicker.

Windows Explorer DOES have problems and has apparently always had
problems. Why, after all these years?

vista has made file copying slower and less stable that it was with xp...
they claim that its better, but the results are there to show how bad it
really is.

plus the WE interface is very badly designed.

I just copied a 6 GB file from an external drive without problems in less than 5 minutes, where it took over 45 minutes to copy to the drive from a Windows XP machine. A lot depends on what the computers have on them and what hardware is used, not the OS.

Exactly right, I have no problems at all with Windows Explorer, copying
folders that are over 20 Gig daily to a different hard drive. (backup copy)
