I have a folder containing 6 photos. I viewed it in thumbnail mode and
Explorer has messed up. Two of the photos have the same thumbnail. The files
themselves are OK. How do I get Explorer to refresh it's thumbnail cache?

Delete Thumbs.db for that folder.

If thumbnails are cached, Thumbs.db file contains the thumbnails for a
particular folder.

To get rid of Thumbs.db files...

Start | Run | Type: control folders | Click OK |
View tab | Check: Do not cache thumbnails |
Click Apply | Click OK

[[Disables automatic storage of folder thumbnails in a cache file. When you
store thumbnail images in a cache file, Windows can reuse them instead of
creating new ones every time you open a folder. If you disable this
automatic storage function, folders that contain thumbnails
might take longer to open.]]

If you use Thumbnail views a lot, you may want to UNCheck Do not cache
thumbnails.

To re-create the Thumbs.db file, click the folder whose contents you are
trying to view in Microsoft Windows Explorer, and then click Thumbnails on
the View menu.

Note: To see the Thumbs.db file, you must be able to view hidden files. To
view hidden files, click Folder Options on the View menu in Windows
Explorer, click the View tab, click Show All Files, and then click OK.

Thanks for the reply but I'm having problems seeing the Thumbs file. I don't
have a "Folder Options" item on the View menu. Nearest I have is "Customise
This Folder" or "Properties" if I right click on the folder itself.

However I managed to fix the thumb nails by selecting all the files in the
folder then File -> Refresh Thunbnail.

The Folder Options can be found under the Tools menu in an Explorer
window or as a separate applet in Control Panel. In the Folder Options
applet is a tab called "View". That is where you will find the option
to show all hidden files and extensions (three places).

Thanks. Don't know why I didn't see it before.
