Windows Explorer Overwrote FAT(16) in removable drive.... how to recover data?

Have an Iomega ZIP100 (parallel) drive connected to a PC running Windows 2k
Pro (latest SP & patches).

In File Explorer I had a zipdisk in and was two-levels down in the folders
but needed to check something on a different zipdisk. Rushing, I popped out
the first disk and stuck in the 2nd (yes, should have "Ejected" via
Windows). If I am at the top level of the folder tree and click on a folder,
it will come back saying "folder does not exist" (until I refresh F5)
because Explorer STILL keeps a copy of the tree in memory for faster
access - just like Windows 3.1 did. Anyway, this time I accidently clicked
again on the (old) folder name three levels down and, to my horror, it
"read" the folder contents... jibberish in the Right-hand pane!

I tried going to the top level and hitting F5 to refresh, but it was too
late. The blasted thing had overwritten the FAT(16) with the one from the
other disk.
I have not seen this since Windows 3.1...

Anyone have an idea how to recover in FAT 16? MS' knowledge base has
something for FAT 32, but I could neither find anything on the IOMEGA site
nor on the MS Site covering this.

Please help!

The old Norton Diskedit should allow you to work with the underlying
structure.
