Windows Explorer occasional crash after IE7 update

Hello,

Since installing IE7 via Windows Update (hence the final version of course),
Windows Explorer (NOT IE7) occasionally crashes. This happens with or
without a running IE7 session.
From tome to time, let's say 2 - 3 times a day there's suddenly a window
popping up with the message that Windows Explorer has a problem and needs to
shut down, followed by a Dr. Watson crash. So far I could not find a
straight pattern to reproduce this behavior, it is really intermittently. My
main questions are:

- Is this a known issue?
- Is there a way to solve?
- How to track down the reason of this particular problem?

Note that running IE7 is not a problem, I can browse the Internet without
any troubles.
My OS is Windows XP PRO SP2 (English). The machine ran perfectly before IE7.

All help greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,
Perry

Since you've determined that the cause was IE7, you should post your
question in the IE7 newsgroup *after* you spend some time reading
through the posts there. The IE7 newsgroup is:

microsoft.public.internetexplorer.general

There are a huge number of posts so it would be smart to start by going
to Google Groups Advanced Search. Use a search term that describes your
problem, constrain the search to the IE7 newsgroup and the date to very
recently.

And no, I'm sorry but I don't have your answer or I would tell you
now. ;-)

Hello Malke,

Thanks for your answer. Please note that I have NOT determined that it is
directly a IE7 issue, I just know that the only recent update and software
modification is IE7 and that the problem occurs since that date. Still might
be that IE7 has nothing to do regarding this problem. Anyhow I will follow
your proposition and check the IE7 newsgroups, but probably someone could
say there that IE7 is not crashing... is running perfectly and bacause
Windows Explorer crashes it is a Win XP problem and hence I should check the
WXP forum. You see what I mean.

This being said, since I wrote this message we see the very same problem now
on three different machines in our network (all of them after upgrading
IE7). I will certainly check the other newsgroup.

Best Regards,
Perry
