Windows Explorer Must close on launch

I have a brand new Dell with Vista factory loaded. Everytime I click on my
computer (or explore), the application encounters an error and must close.

If I immediatly try a 2nd time it opens sucessfully. If I close that window,
do something else, then try to open my computer again, it will again cause
error. Again, opening it a 2nd time it will work fine.

I can find nothing related in the various KB's. Can anyone tell me where to
even start looking ?? hardware? Software? Where would i find any clues to
point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
Cam

Vista is home Premium
PC is a dell Inspiron 531, Athlon 64 x2 4400+
only thing changed from factory is the addition of a wireless PCI card
(working fine)

Do some basic maintenance: Disk Cleanup, chkdsk /r (from a command
prompt, you will need to type Y to run chkdsk on reboot). A simple
file/directory error might be the source of the problem.

I've found on one new Vista installation that letting the system
highlight newly-installed programs in the start menu can cause all kinds
of grief. Right click the Start Button, select Properties, Select Start
Menu, Customize button, scroll down and turn off Highlight Newly
Installed Programs.
