Windows Explorer & IE Explorer Problem

Problem:
I can't access windowsupdate.microsoft.com and hyperlinks in hotmail are all
dead, as well as buttons, and other javascript driven functions.
Furthermore, the "Search Companion" in Windows Explorer doesn't show up
either...

Operating Environment:
Windows XP Pro SP2; Antivirus disabled;

Solutions Tried:
I've tried modifying all settings in IE; removing IE and reinstalling, but
nothing seems to work. Tried "open / run / regsvr32 urlmon.dll / reset web
settings"

Any help is greatly appreciated, I'm running out of options.
