Hi,

Using xp sp1. windows explorer freezes when I right click a folder or
try to access the "File" drop down list.

PLEASE HELP!!

Check this:
Temporary Decline in Performance Occurs When You Right-Click a File or
Folder in Windows Explorer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;819101

Also try going to IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced options and
disable third-party browser extensions.

Try using BHODemon to see which Browser helper objects you have:

Good luck

Tried all suggestion below... no positive results

Can I just replace the "explorer.exe" from the WinXP disk and use this new file?

All suggestions welcome, I am at my wits end!!

Thanks in advance,

PROBLEM SOLVED!!
My Problem: When I right click on a sub-directory in Windows Explorer I get the error message that explorer has encountered an error and has to quit ... does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this. It just started doing this recently but I don't know what caused it.
Thanks

This problem has just about driven me crazy but a few minutes ago I finally
discovered what was causing it! I uninstalled Spy Sweeper & the right click
in Windows Explorer works fine now!! Hope this helps everyone else having
this problem! Good Luck!

You could've just unchecked the context menu option in spy sweeper instead of
removing the software.
