Good evening guys...I've searched but maybe i just don't know how to ask the
question properly.

I have three of four computers with the exacct same problem. I open Windows
Explorer, highlight a folder, click File in the menu (to add a subfolder) and
then wait 30 seconds or more for the drop down menu to appear. Once it does,
response times are normal.

These three computers are all on a home MS network and all are running XP
Pro SP2 with all updates and patches. The one computer that responds
normally is NOT on the network; it too is running XP Pro SP2 all updates.

I've disabled auto search for network printers and folders via
Tools>Options>View to no avail.

Just an irksome problem. If anybody has any suggestions, I'd appreciate
hearing them.

Thanks for your quick response. After I posted the message I kept searching
and found my answer. My mistake was I wasn't paying attention to the "Right
Click" problem solutions and how they might apply.

I downloaded and ran ShellExView and sure enough, one of the Context Menu
items was the cause. I recently upgraded my nVidia video card drivers and
the nView Desktop Context Menu line was the problem Once it was disabled,
clicking File in the menu displayed the drop down menu instantly.

Again, thanks for yout time and trouble. I'll be keeping your suggestions
for future reference. I try and keep all the little fixes and suggestions I
get......makes people think I know what I doing when I get to help someone
with them. :+)

Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers:

Right-click is extremely slow only when Network is enabled:
