Windows - Delayed Write Failed ??

Whit

Help please - I'm currently running WXP Pro. I use 3rd party software to
backup files to a CD-RW drive. Everything has worked fine thru numerous
backups, but now all efforts are terminated before completion, yielding a
pop-up window:
"Windows - Delayed Write Failed. Windows was unable to save all the data for
the file E:\CDR Backup.bac. The data has been lost. This error may be caused
by a failure of your computer hardware...." (closed before I could copy all
of it)

My Event Viewer also shows a System Error, Source: atapi - "The device,
\Device\Ide\IdePort1, did not respond within the timeout period."

I'm using the same backup program, the same brand of CDR's, the CDR's are
not even close to capacity when terminated, I'm not on a network, I've
closed my antivirus software, my firewall, my screensaver, all other
applications, all with no luck. The CDR drive works fine when I drag files
for copying, using Roxio. My backup program works fine when I backup smaller
sets of files to a Zip drive. Since I didn't order the backup software with
my computer, Gateway "can't" help me. I'm at a complete loss as to what to
try next. Any and all suggestions are sincerely appreciated. Thanks for your
help,
Whit

I assume you are backing up directly to CD in which case you also have
installed, the Direct CD or Drag to Disk Component of Roxio's Easy CD
Creator or Easy Media Creator. What version do you have installed. If
version 5 with all the updates, version 6 or Easy Media Creator, have you
tried removing and reinstalling the software, have you checked the Roxio
website as they used to have their own support groups at the site,
www.roxio.com.

Michael - Thanks for your response. I use Roxio's Direct CD to format the
disk, then use my backup software to actually transfer the files. Up until
recently, it worked fine. My version 5 is up to date, but I have not
reinstalled and did not know about their support groups. After your note, I
found 'em and I'm headed there now. Thanks very much for your help.
