windows defrag

I recently installed Diskeeper on my OS. I did not like the program so I
uninstalled it. It seems to me that Diskeeper took over my Windows XP defrag
program and when I uninstalled It also uninstalled Window defrag. Any
suggestions as to where I can download Window XP defrager. I do not have the
disk that came with my OS.

Use Explorer*, Navigate to C:\Windows\Inf
Right Click the file Dfrg.Inf and from the Context Menu, Left Click
"Install"
* - Explorer natively hides protected OS files. To view you'll need
to Change View options to unhide OS files, Hidden & System.

I am wondering why didn't you like it?

This info was somewhat usefull..My defrag now appears in the start menu but
when I click on it I get a error message "snap-in failed". also gives me the
CLSID with filename unknown. Other suggestions would be appriecated.

OK - Thanks for the follow-up. This means that the Registry association
with Defrag is "Fractured". Registry work is always a risk. If you have
only had Diskeeper on for a short while, you might be better served to
do a System Restore back to a pre-Diskeeper state.

exlorer "page cannot be found" Any other help... Thanks
And by the way the trail version of diskeeper is the nag version...Do not
download it!

That was a good surmise Steve. I've used Diskeeper for years so wasn't
familiar with that part of it.

Thanks again Rock. I recently played with the demo version on 98 box at
werk so I was aware of the possibility. It nags every few days, I don't
use it and haven't had the chance to remove it yet, and no pressing need
as it just nags at startup every few days then stays out of the way. No
big deal, eh? :)

system restore would be easiest.

But..you can get all files from the XP CD (probably in cab files which
you have to extract)..they're all there. All files starting with dfrg*
and defrag*

The files in particular are:

dfrgui.dll
dfrgsnap.dll
dfrgres.dll
dfrgntf.exe
dfrgfat.exe
dfrg.msc
dfrg.inf
defragp.chm
defrag.hlp
defrag.exe

put all those in a folder, then right click the dfrg.inf and install.

This re-installs the windows defragger.

One always needs the disk for the OS they want to continue to use. Get
one.
