Windows Defender won't turn

I recently installed Windows7. I also installed Windows Security Essentials,
which doesn't appear to stop spyware. I tried to turn on Windows Defender
and it WILL NOT TURN ON. I see several others are having the same problem.
I find no posted answers. Is there anyone at Microsoft paying attention to
this or have an answer????

Microsoft Security Essentials contains much of the Windows Defender functions
within it. Hence, if you have MSE working and it's regularly updating, it's
as if you are receiving the protections of a Windows Defender too.
