Windows Defender Questions

Good morning. I am looking at Windows Defender as our company’s new
anti-spyware software. While the website for Defender is informative I still
have some questions. Can you help me out with them? I have listed them
below. Any help would be appreciated.

1. How do you manage the software....is it an enterprise version
where you can make one change and update all computers? Will there be such a
version?

2. What if we need to make a config change on 1000 computer that are
running Defender....how would we accomplish that?

3. Is Defender doing a similar role that McAfee AntiSpyWare Software
is doing? Can they both be installed? What happens if they run against each
other?

The free Windows Defender product is not designed for enterprise management.

There is a .adm file included in the distribution, and you can open it and
see what policies are exposed--they are pretty minimal.

For enterprise use, the Microsoft product incorporating antispyware
functionality and designed for automated deployment and management is
Microsoft Forefront Client Security--now in public beta, or perhaps nearing
release:

I think that pretty well answers your first two questions.

I'm not familiar enough with McAfee's product to contrast it with Windows
Defender. I believe that the current release notes don't include any
specific incompatibilities with other antivirus or antispyware products, but
as a general rule, as few products doing real-time scanning at the same time
as possible is preferable.

Forefront Client Security is officially released today. I posted a message
in .announcements which gives some urls, including one with estimates of the
pricing.
