Windows Defender not catching intruder

I am getting over and over a popup. I have McAfee Virus Protection running
and my popup blocker is on and Windows Defender is running. I have run
everything several times in an attempt to stop and remove this and removed
the item from the registry "AVSystem" coming from 450.87.761.0

I cannot get rid of this constant intrusion. This IP address above is
someone trying to sell another virus program and when I close these windows
and popups with either the task manager or the X in the upper left corner,
it closes my browser and it is slowing down my keyboard to a snail pace.
Help! Can anyone help with this ?????

Try SpyBot seach and distroy. Defender is nearly useless Or you can also use
the free Zone Alarm. let me know how you go.

This is for XP Only.
Download cccleaner and when it installs do uncheck- the yahoo toolbar
option.
Once it installs- The first tab is Windows:
Put a check mark in Internet Explorer so all are checked.
in Windows Explorer- you should only check- recent Documents and Other
Explorer MRU
In System: check only- clipboard and Empty Recycle Bin
Advanced- only Prefetch Files
The next tab is Applications:
you can check off all of Firefox if you are running that and all of
"Internet".
Leave the rest blank.
Now click on Analize
then click on Run Cleaner

This First part is the easy way- second part if all else fails.
download ad-aware 2007 update the database
Run the program and quantine all it finds
then download Spybot Search and Destroy- do an update also and run it too
and do a fix to all the red items.

once done,

Pick up AVG Antispyware update it and run it- it gives you a 30 day trial
but you can make it free or purchase it

download superantispyware free and make sure it is set to start at startup.
Superantispyware is an excellant program that should get most of the garbage
out that others cannot. Make sure you do its update too. Then run it and
quarantine what it finds.
It might require a reboot.

If when you come back you still have problems then try it this way:

Turn Off System Restore

Then- disconnect from the internet. Restart the computer and go into Save
Mode by pressing the F8 key before the computer goes into windows xp.

Run Adaware 2007 and delete all it finds
Run Spybot Search and Destroy and delete all the red items.

Run Superantispyware- it might ask for a reboot to finish the removal so you
want to run this one last.

Reboot if it doesn't into Windows XP. and see if all is fine.

For Vista:
You can run CCcleaner it works on Vista and follow the above directions.
Adaware 2007 does not yet work on vista and spybot search and destroy is a
bit flaky on Vista so I would stay away from them.
Pick up AVG Antispyware update it and run it- it gives you a 30 day trial
but you can make it free or purchase it .

Also Superantispyware also works on vista.

let us know how it goes

Robin, I remember you said you'd been running AdAware2007 on one of your
computers, but I can't remember reading whether you reached a conclusion
about it - do I take it that you've not experienced any trouble with it and
are now using it regularly?

Up to now, the mess over at Lavasoft (see their forum here:
http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?s=f57327437d5f125dfb970a2184dbc0d3&showforum=146)
has continued to scare me off, for any number of reasons.

no conclusion but it is very hard to find ad aware se so I told him to do
the adaware 2007, if he comes back here and tells me ad adaware 2007 is
flakey then i will zip it up and put it up on my server and let him pick it
up from there or refind the site i found it on.
I still find it flaky and will not install it until I have no choice-when
they discontinue ad aware se. Hopefully by then they will have gotten all
the kinks out.

also I have not installed it on any of my clients computers- am also waiting
till I have no choice.
I think part of the problem is if you had ad aware se for some reason even
when you uninstall it first out of add/remove it doesn't completely take it
out and I think when you go and install the 2007 version it mixes up with
whatever doesn't come out of se.
I have tried emtpying the registry on one computer and took it out wherever
i saw it but it seemed to have made no difference because it must be someone
deep in windows.
When putting it on a computer that never had ad aware se ( i did this to 2
computers) it loaded, installed and updated with no problems.
But sometimes it still hiccups when getting updates. On my test machine it
could sit there for a minute or two then finally bring the updates in,
sometimes it fails completely and I have to check the button again.
Sometimes it fails when it trys to install, then going back about a half hr
and trying it again- all is fine.
So that is why i am going to wait a bit more.
