Windows Defender & MSVCR80.DLL

Fuzzy John

I see several posts in these newsgroups about problems with MSVCR80.DLL not
found. I just checked the 3 machines (Win XP Pro and Win 2K) on which I run
Windows Defender and none so far produced this message. However, none of
these machines have MSVCR80.DLL.

How come I am not getting that message?

Where have you looked for the file? It's definitely included in the .MSI
file as distributed.

I seem to only have it in one of the WINSxS folders.

Please delete c:\program files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe.manifest and let
me know if the problem goes away.

Yes, it works now

Deleting *.manifest eliminates this problem. The app starts successfully now. Too bad it won't update...
