.... so I clecked on 'Start Scan' and it came up with an error stating the
pointer (link from button?) was invalid. I had to go to the Scan menu and
start it manually.

I have encountered this problem on two computers already and came in here
looking for an answer.

Hope to se one soon.

The "scan" button at the top of the screen works, though. But not the one on
the right.

Consider doing a new download of Windows Defender from www.microsoft.com.
more downloads.

There's new code there that should fix this bug. It isn't (yet) being
distributed in any automatic way.

Bill,

I can't find what you are referring to. Is this a new release, or just the
non-automatic one of a month or two ago? A link?

Thanks.
