windows crashes all the time, programs close randomly

Ok - I've removed all spyware and adware, no background
programs, and no rhyme or reason to it, randomly when I am
in a program it will hang, then I get the error message
that "[*].exe" has caused an error and will be closed.
This happens with Word, NotePad, IE, Winamp, Outlook,
EVERYTHING! Sometimes it happens with Explorer, even.
AND at times the computer will randomly restart, like a
hard reset. Everything seems fine hardware-wise, is there
anything I can do to help prevent this from happening?

Either virus infection or flaky hardware -- especially memory
and/or CPU. Have you tried reseating them?
