Windows could not start....

Hi,

I switched on my Acer laptop and this message appears on a black screen:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the
original setup CD-ROM.
Select 'r' at the first creen to start repair.

Id do not have a CD-ROM to reapir this as the computer came with windows
installed already. I cannot get onto windows at all.

Any help woould be greatfully appreciated.
Thanks

You'll need to contact Acer and ask them to send the CD. It, the laptop,
probably came with an option to create the restore CDs. If not then it is on
a partition or they'll want you to call and request one. If they argue
insist that you know that OEMs are required (per agreement with Microsoft)
to provide a method to restore the operating system. If it came with it
setup so that you were required to burn the CDs/DVDs to make your own
restore disk and you did not do so then they may well charge you a hefty sum
to send you the disks but Acer's generally pretty cool to work with.
