windows check disck at logon

everytime I reboot my computer I get a message that
windows needs to check my disk for errors then scans the
files on my hard drive and repairs any errors. what's
with this and what's it mean?

I've had that with older versions like windows 98 and
normally it meant that windows was not shut down
properly. In other words, you did not go to start and
tell the computer to shut down. If you are shutdown
properly, then I'll tell you. With 98 it had a ton of
glitches! What I ended up having to do, because there was
no other solution, was wipe my hard drive clean and return
the computer to its original state from the time I bought
it. I hope this helps you and sorry if it doesn't.

my version of XP Home! ) Check Disk ran at every boot. I was getting tired
of seeing *.chk files. Now, Check Disk does not run at every boot! Went to:

The following fixed it for me.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

value contains commands that will be executed at startup. The default value is:
autocheck autochk *

If you don't want any checks to be performed, delete all autocheck entries.""""

I deleted: autocheck autochk *
Rebooted. Ta Da!!! No Check Disk.
Now, I need to find out if Error Checking will run when I want it to run. Will
check that later. I have rebooted so many times in the last hour, now I want
to actually do something.

Thanks. Downloaded both bootexe.reg and the restore. Haven't tried
bootexe.reg yet. I have a whole folder full of these vbs and reg fixes. )
The one I really like is regopen.vbs from Doug Knox, I don't even use
Start/Run/regedit anymore.

However, I need last state, more often than not while testing. )

Thanks for outlining the solution to this... I have been frustrated for 9 months and finally got smart and went to the community for help.. no more check disk rebotting issue!!! hurray!
