Hi,
My laptop suddenly crashed, and cld not start up at all,
not even in 'Safe' mode. The error msg is:
"Windows could not start because the following file is
missing or corrupt - <windows root>\system32\hal.dll - pls
re-install a copy of the above file"

Can anyone advise me on how to solve this problem pls? Wld
also really appreciate advise on how to backup my data
before I try to repair this.

Thank u very much!
Jamie

Hi, try Boot to the Recovery Console and run "CHKDSK /p /r"
If you change any new hardware recently, try to change it back.
Try to perform a repair installation of WIn XP
If fails, perform a parrallel installation of windows xp and backup the
data, than a clean install
If not possible, than a clean installation is what's left

Hi Melvin,
Thanks for the info! Unfortunately it's still too
technical for me to attempt.

Wld u know of any reliable data backup/recovery cum
windows repair shops in Singapore?

Thank u very much for your help..
Jamie

Try Simlim.. or Funan center..
For data recovery, it might be quite costly..

You should contact your hardware vendor first for advise..
