I travel a great deal, and when I am on a flight, there are a number of
services that may start that are not applicable to my needs. No need
for wireless services, desktop indexing, etc for example. Is there a
way to set up a different profile that when I log in, will start just
minimal services? My thinking is that I amy be able to extend the
battery life a bit more.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Hello,

A link from google gave me these:

Bare Minimum Services:

a.. Com+ Event System
b.. Cryptographic Services
c.. DCOM Server Process Launcher
d.. DHCP Client
e.. DNS Client
f.. Event Log
g.. IPSEC Services
h.. Workstation
i.. Shell Hardware Detection
j.. System Event Notification
k.. Protected Storage
l.. Network Connections
m.. Plug + Play
n.. Print Spooler
o.. Remote Procedure Call
p.. Secondary Logon
q.. Security Accounts Manager
You might want to google yourself for "unneeded services XP" or "xp
services" or "turn off services xp" etc.. I think you have to make an
account with administrative rights to disable services. I don't use
"workstation" because im not in a network, I don't use secondary logon
because i'm the only user..."plug + play"? better research that one.
"Hardware detection" if you going to add hardware. "DNS client" well...I
have got by without it... but I use it now. If you not sure about the
necessity of a service set it to manual.
