The popup does not appear, when I set the reg value NoDriveTypeAutorun
to 0x20. However, I also do not get an autoplay popup whe I insert an
autoplay CD.... Not what I want...
And anyway: the annoying popup did not appear previously. So it must
be possible to...etc.

With help, I found a solution:
In the registry ther is a key NodriveTypeAutorun.
you can set this for CD players and/or HD's.

It seems, the system is trying not to autorun a CD,
BUT A HARD DISK (or 2)
I dunno why, suddenly, but when I set the parameter to 0x8, it does
not autoplay anymore.

Questions reamin:
Why was the value 0 in the first place ?
Is there a trojan or virus that did that ?
Is the value 8 on your system too ?

put this in a .reg file and run it (everything between the lines):
---------------------------------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:00000008

---------------------------------------------

I have a similar problem to this... My daughter's iPod was corrupted, so
following Apple's 5R's I had to reinstall iTunes. iTunes does not recognize
the iPod now. Autoplay flashlight comes up like it is searching for
something, but what I don't know. The iPod is OK since I can get it to work
perfectly on a second windows computer. I have a second iPod that also is
"corrupt" when using the original computer--but works fine on the second one.
Do you know what autoplay is searching for or how to fix this? Something
about the reinstalled software is not "connecting"???
