I recently installed Windows XP Pro on an older PC that had been runing
Window 2000 Pro. Its an Althon 1.2 ghz processor with 768 MB of RAM. Since
then Windows will sometimes behave as if I was holding down the shift or
control keys. For instance, if I click on an icon on the desktop, Windows
will highlight that icon and every icon above it. If I click on a line of
text it will highlight everything from the point where I clicked to the
beginning of the line. Hitting the ESC key with sometimes fix the problem,
sometimes not. I've got an old video card from a defunct manufacturer with
only 16 MB of RAM on it, so I wonder if that has something to do with it.
Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Well, that's not the problem. I checked the control panel and the sticky
keys wern't turned on. Any other ideas?

You could try reducing "Hardware acceleration" in Display Properties,
Settings, Advanced, Troubleshooting tab.
