I reinstalled windows xp home edition again(every 2 month;s it seems) and I
can't activate it due to previous activations. Everything is the same but it
won't alow me to activate it. the key is the original one that came with the
software.

Now I spend alot of time researching on the computer downloading software
that grabs my attention and eventually it slows down my computer. This is why
I reinstall windows alot

There's no limit to the number of times you can reinstall and
activate the same WinXP license on the same PC. Nor is there ever a
charge. Nor does a Product Key (so long as it's not an evaluation
license) ever expire. If it's been more than 120 days since you last
activated that specific Product Key, you'll most likely be able to
activate via the Internet without problem. If it's been less, you might
have to make a 5 minute phone call.

Here are the facts pertaining to activation:

That's not really a sufficient reason to have to reinstall the OS so
frequently. You should learn to better maintain the OS.

If all you do is "researching on the computer downloading software
that grabs my attention" then you should re-install the OS every 30 days
without activation or every 121 days (more than 120 days) with
activation. The 120 das only applies to non-OEM software! Your
software must be OEM as home users on't normally buy OS as a matter of
course!

Do you actually do anything with your computer apart from downloading
software packages?

You seriousy need to learn about imaging your hard disk!

I don't like to be dependant on a communications network of any kind
in order to operate and maintain my computer.

What happens if Microsoft goes bankrupt and cannot provide this service
anymore?
What happens if you take your laptop with you to another galaxy or another
time and have to reinstall?
What happens if a nuclear war happens and there are no phones or internet
left?
and in that case a million lives depend on the data on the last remaining
operational pc in the world?

Fantasy? All the above are possible.
You never know problems product activation might cause in the future...

you should do you experiments of software on a virtual computer
www.vmware.com is one solution
but MS has virtual PC
and there are more, if you look around.

Simply choose the option to activate by phone.
Call Microsoft at the displayed number, usually done in about 5 minutes.

There are very few reasons to reinstall as often as you do and what you
describe is not one of them.
Or are you actually downloading Trojans and other malware?
Be careful what you download.
Are you using safe computing practices:

Then why didn't you choose an OS without such a limitation? There are
many to choose from.

What happens if Microsoft goes bankrupt and cannot provide this service
anymore?

Not a particularly likely scenario, but Microsoft long ago announced
that, when the time came that they could no longer support WPA, they'd
provide a patch to remove or nullify the need for activation.

What happens if you take your laptop with you to another galaxy or another
time and have to reinstall?

Not a problem. You'll have 30 days to get back.

What happens if a nuclear war happens and there are no phones or internet
left?

Then the ability to play games on your computer is the least of your
problems.

and in that case a million lives depend on the data on the last remaining
operational pc in the world?

That's piss-poor risk management, and the fools who allowed such a
situation to develop deserve to die. Survival of the fittest, doncha
know....

There are a lot of "What happens if..." scenarios that are possible and
prudent people already take them into consideration.
Most of yours are not plausible.
The one with the vaguest of possibilities will not occur in the foreseeable
future.

Anyone who seriously worries about those "What happens if..." scenarios
needs to make a choice other than Windows.

There are many choices, use the options that best suit your needs.
From what you say, Windows is not and probably never will be right for you.
Check the Linux groups for their opinions.
Of if you want the computer ready to go:
