Windows 95

Is there a forum for a Windows 95 question? My neighbor has an old PC with
95. He has no disks. The HD has c:\windows\options\cabs

But he does not have any numbers, serial keys, etc.

Windows will not load. Is there a way to create a 95 Boot disk / A drive /
and reload 95 ? But should the Reg Editor run first to try and locate the
25 digit serial number in the existing version of Windows 95 ?

The old 95 PC has no network connections but it has a CD Rom. Is there a
way to DL and create a bootable CD on this XP home PC, use that CD to boot
the old 95 PC and install Windows 95?

Thank you from New Orleans.

1. If Windows won't load, how are you going to read the Product Key in the
registry?

2. Win95 cd's weren't bootable. Have your neighbor buy a copy of Win95B on
eBay. It will come with a boot floppy and the operating system cd.

How to install Win95

The hardest thing will be finding the drivers. You'll just have to be
creative and figure out what hardware is in the box and then Google for the
drivers.

Do you know how to go to your "all groups" window in
your newsreader and do a search? If your newsfeed
does have such a group, that is where you will find it

My feed has alt.os.windows95 and alt.windows95 and
comp.os.ms-windows.setup.win95 and alternate version
comp.os.ms-windows.win95.setup as well as "official"
microsoft.public.win95.setup
The HD has c:\windows\options\cabs
But he does not have any numbers, serial keys, etc.

Without the setup to start everything, and the codes to
enter into setup, the cab files won't do anything... just
like a password protected Zip file with no way to UnZip
Windows will not load. Is there a way to create a 95 Boot disk

I have (in the past, haven't looked in a long time) seen
boot disks for various versions of Windoze on eBay... you
might go there and do a search
But should the Reg Editor run first to try and locate the
25 digit serial number in the existing version of Windows 95 ?

If Windoze will not load... how are you going to run anything?

If the PC won't start there really is nothing you can do... you
may, of course, use a different computer to create a boot disk

But, as I said above, without the Win95 setup program and the
code key, you are pretty much not going to do anything at all

You MIGHT find an old Win95 for sale on eBay
