Can anyone please advise me (I failed to find anyone else who would do so)
what will happen to my email program in Windows Mail on installation of
Windows 7 (I cannot get any newsgroups of Windows 7 when I click on
Tools/Newsgroups either)

no mail/news program native with W7.
Windows Live Mail is suggested.
check microsoft web site for it.

Windows Live Mail is a terrble progeam for email and does not compare to
Windows Mail, I was on ATT Tech help over 4 hours and on one could help me
set it up so, I went back to Vista and good old Windows Mail.

WLM is set up the exact same way as WM. I don't see how you could set up
one but not the other.
In fact, it's easier as it provides some of the email settings, based on the
email address you enter.

Unfortunately, tech's at ATT in India could not come with an answer and YES
I started by inputting same as WM with negative results - if you can provide
me with the actual steps it would be great.

That's just your opinion or personal experience. Windows Live Mail
works fine for me and for many others.
Had you asked for help in the WLM newsgroup, we would have been
able to assist you, instead of relying on the dummies who work for
AT&T first tier tech support.

Did you upgrade a Vista computer to Windows 7?
Windows 7 will deactivate your Windows Mail, but it will save all
the messages. Just do a search for .EML files. You can import those
into Windows Live Mail.

you might try this link...
http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB401738&cv=740,102

but their website is funky, and probably won't let me give a direct link to
the help page. For different services, and/or different areas, it may be
different...
It basically says:
Check email settings to ensure your email client (i.e., Outlook Express,
Outlook, etc.) contains the correct mail server settings and that your email
address and password are entered correctly.
Note: Mail server settings are listed below. For full instructions on how
to verify your email settings, select the link in step 1.

Incoming mail server (POP3)
pop.att.yahoo.com
Outgoing mail server:
smtp.att.yahoo.com - Outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
Incoming mail port #:
995, secure connection (SSL) checked
Outgoing mail port #:
465, secure connection (SSL) checked
Email Address / Username / Account Name in Client
Use full email address (i.e., (e-mail address removed), (e-mail address removed),
(e-mail address removed))

I did a clean installation of a upgrade and imported WLM, with zero results.

It may be his personal experience, but for him it sucks. And for many
others who don't want to conform to dumbed down products compared to what
they are used to.
