It would be Windows 3.10 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11 (WFW 3.11 for
short). The only difference between to two is the Workgroup capability.
Also, WFW 3.11 need MS-DOS 6.0 or 6.22 installed first, which has no
knowledge of FAT32, but uses FAT16 which is limited to a maximum of 2GB
partitions.

It would be Windows 3.10 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11 (WFW
3.11 for short).

It wasn't widely known, but there was also a plain Windows (not
for workgroups) 3.11. It was what Microsoft called a refresh
release. To Windows 3.1, it added support for diskless
workstations and a few drivers that were previously available for
download separately. For almost everyone, there was no practical
difference between Windows 3.1 and 3.11.

But this is ancient history now.

Star Fleet Admiral Q,

Actually there was a Windows 3.11 version. If my memory still serves me, it
contained all of v3.1 along with some driver updates.

You can verify the existence of Windows for Workgroups 3.11, Windows 3.1 and
Windows 3.11 in the following article:

File Manager Shows Garbled Date for Year 2000 or Later
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...pport/kb/articles/q85/5/57.asp&NoWebContent=1

Also, I installed (and still have) Windows for Workgroups 3.11 installed on a
DOS 5.0 system therefore I don't believe that DOS 6.xx was the minimum
requirement.

Put an ad in the local paper - there are probably a few 3.11 diskette
sets kicking around, and someone may even be willing to give it to you.

You can sometimes find them at yard sales. Usually you have to but a
clapped out old 386 too. :-)
