I had trouble writing with my DVD/CD RW, after it had worked at least once.
Instead of fixing it I've managed to make it worse and now it fails to
recognise the device. The message indicates that a driver cannot be found.
As the device came with the machine I do not have a driver and cannot find
one on the intenet. I suspect it is some form of windows system
device/driver and I have removed it.

I bought a new DVD writer and cannot use that either.

Please can anyone help, I'm going mad.

Thanks Bob but the problem goes deeper than that.
I'm now told that what I need is the windows integrated standard driver but
have no idea how to get it.

If this is Windows 2003, I don't know what optical drive drivers are
included or what drives are supported. You try SFC /scannow with the
Windows CD in the drive, but I don't know if that would fix what you
"deleted"?

Absolutley spot on Bob. I ran 'SFC /SCANNOW' and it fixed the problem
(without telling me though). I'd used that utility before but had forgotten
about it.

You beat 2 MS tech support who stuck to the line that the drive wasn't on
the HCL therefore they couldn't help me. If you're listening MS, the drive
manufacturer (Philips) stated their drive used the MS Integrated standard
drive. In addition other DVD drives would not work in this machine when they
did work in others. CAse ref - SRQ05061501384. So how come nobody else
suggested SFC?

Bob, I owe you a beer. If you're ever in Hampshire (old England) look me up
at www.pdbsolutions.co.uk.

Thanks again,
Tim

You're welcome, thanks for the feedback. Glad to hear your system's back
to normal, have a good one.
