Windows 2000 & XP networking issues

Is it possible to connect a computer runnning Windows
2000 to an XP network. I can't do it, despite hours of
trying. Is my DSL connection/IP address the issue? Any
help would appreciated.
 
The first question I always ask is if you can ping. if not, compare ipconfig
/all or post it here.
