Windows 2000 to Windows 2003 Upgrade - DC Offline?

Is it OK to pull a temporary DC offline while performing the W2k -> W2003
domain upgrade so that I can plug it back in and do an authoritative restore
with the offline DC if something goes wrong? I'm mainly concerned that the
upgrade process will throw out some errors since it won't be able to
replicate to this offline DC.

Seems like a good idea and would save time in the event of a disaster. If
all goes OK, I'd bring it online and demote it using DCPROMO.

Thanks

In order to upgrade to Windows Server 2003 you need to extend the
schema (adprep) and that is an action that cannot easily be reversed
(you need to restore every DC in the forest from a backup) . Having a
offline DC wont help you in that case.
